Competition Competitions are one of the greatest tools we can offer our students in achieving their dancing goals. Not only are they an exciting personal challenge, but they are also a whole lot of fun! Competitions provide a glimpse of the greater community of Fred Astaire, an oppurtunity to meet and observe students from other studios, and the oppurtunity to see just how far your own dancing can go. Our competitions occur both regionally and nationally in various places throughout the United States. Students of all levels can compete against other students of the same level, even as a beginner.
Our next competition will be held March 6-9th at the Quincy Marriott Click here to see pictures of our Instructors at the competition!
Showcase Ball A Showcase Ball is a formal evening of performances hosted by the studio. The ball is made up of students’ showcases, some of which are performed at competitions. Any student may choose to work with an instructor on a showcase. What exactly is a showcase? It is a uniquely choreographed solo routine performed by the student and the instructor. Showcases are a great way to develop expression in your dancing, as the music used is your choice, and should be something that really moves you. Next showcase ball will be September 12th
Visiting Coaches Our students have the option of taking advantage of our visiting coaches to receive feedback on their dancing from an esteemed member of the dance community. Visiting coaches may also provide the unique choreography for a student’s showcase. Alain Doucet March 12th Taliat Tarsinov April 2nd
Guest parties Guest parties are the perfect opurtunity for our students to share their experience at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in West Hartford, as well as the joy they’ve received from dancing, with their friends. Bringing guests is also a great oppurtunity for our students to earn some free lessons! Our guest parties begin with a warm greeting and a glass of champagne, followed by performances by both students and professionals. A bit more general dancing and then Fred Astaire’s right hand man stops by to finish the evening with a group lesson.
Hiring of Dance Instructors for Private events Instructors are available for hire through the studio, to teach larger groups at functions, parties, etc. Instructors are also available to dance shows in ballroom and in rhythm, salsa, swing, etc. Please contact the manager at the studio for rates. The manager will assess the cost based on the function and quote a price.
